Its alright - As mims debut album, i am some what impressed. A few of the songs on this album tend to be tedious, but hits like the club-thumping Like This re-anacts any night at the club. Great tunes and beats such as Doctor Doctor help this album soar while other songs tend to bring it down. I would recommened buying singles.1. Like This2. Doctor Doctor3. This is why I m hot (original)4. It s AlrightEnjoy!
Uninspired & Unorigonal (Rating: 5 out of 10- -2.5 stars) - Mims debut album Music Is My Savior has been out for a minute and I ve been listening to it. Mostly because his supporters say to give him a chance, and I decided to before I wrote off his album. I understand that he s been through a lot (both his parents died) and is going through some more issues as well, such as a lawsuit with his album cover in Germany (which might explain why Amazon doesn t have it on here anymore as of right now). After a few listens, I have to say that he is totally uninspired and unorigonal on his album. He had a lead single This Is Why I m Hot out earlier this year. If it were up to me, I d change the adjetive in the song title to the word wack, because he gives plenty of examples on this song as well as this album, I m hot cuz I m fly//you ain t cuz you re not. Thats rhymes that fourteen year old kids would have wrote. Now the real meat of the album: My question for this is that is his name Sean Mims, or is it Shawn Carter?? Like many listeners say and the very first thing that pointed out to me when I first heard this album is that his flow is a spin off of Jay-Z s flow (then again what mainstream New York rapper doesn t do that??) Girl s Fav MC is the perfect example of him biting Jay s flow. Where I Belong and Cop It are more examples (talking and adlibs as well) of his spin off of Jay s flow. On Just Like That he says Some ****** love my swag, they call me Lil Jigga, my point exactly. Then I think he bites Twista s flow on the song They Don t Wanna Play (listen to how he says the last word in every line in his verse). And Superman is possibly the worst and the wackest song on here, but thats not saying much. The album isn t a complete write off though. Big Black Train is a good song, and shows that if Mims doesn t bite or spin off other rappers flow, he will have some potential. Without You is another good song, where he sound more origonal with the help of Letoya Luckett. I actually like the remix to This Is Why I m Hot becuase of Baby Cham and Jr. Reid. Don t Cry (Outro) is probably the best song on the album, because he actually put some heart into the song. A lot of the productuon is good as well, like the lyrically wack but good produced Like This. Overall Mims debut is barely average. Most of the songs on here are completely filler and full of biting. The songs where he puts some heart into, are actually the best songs. Music Is My Savior is one of the worst of 07, and I personally believe that if he continues to put out garbage music like this, he going to have to find a new savior, becuase music isn t doing it s job. Peace. Lyrics: D+ Production: B- Guest Appearances: C Musical Vibes: C Top 5 Tracks: 1. Don t Cry 2. Doctor Doctor 3. Big Black Train 4. Without You (featuring Letoya Luckett) 5. How Wack Can U Get - Let Me Review This songLyrics: 1/10 He Got 1 point because he made an attempt.Production: 3/10 Horrible Versions Of An Ice Cream Truck Beat.Album Cover: 1/10 horrible cover nothing special. No meaning.Depth/Meaning: 0/10 Pointless Songs Not Even Good To Dance To In My Opinion.Overall 5/40Hip Hop Really Is Dead Thanks To People Like Mims, Mike Jones ,All the lils and youngs (except maybe a few cant think of any lils or youngs that are good) and all the other wack mainstream rappers (except a few like nas, lupe, jay z etc u get me the good mainstream rappers)STOP SUPPORTING WACK POP RAPPERS LIKE MIMS.Ps. M.I.M.S. = Making It More Simplistic {2 ½ Stars} - On his debut, Mims sets out to bring NY back (his words, not mine). I don t think this is the kind of album that s going to bring about any kind of ressurgence. Especially since he sounds like/bites Shawn Carter so hard. When he isn t biting, his flow on songs like Like This, Superman (which rehashes the the same beat as his lead single), and It s Alright is pretty much nonexistant. And on joints like Girlfriends Fav MC and Cop It he bites Jay Z so hard (ad libs and all) that they start out sounding like Jay Z tracks. I won t even start on the lame similies. That would require more paragraphs than I normally allot myself. There are a few songs that are worth a spin or two. In my opinion, This Is Why I m Hot and it s remix are easily the standouts. Then there are joints like Where I Belong and Doctor Doctor where Mims switches up the topic and produces some solid material (even though they can come off kind of forced). Just LIke That is cool because of nice production (despite a godawful hook) and They Don t Wanna Play is okay -- it features a decent guest shot from Bad Seed (Bun B. drops a verse too). The only other time I ve ever heard Bad Seed was on Apathy s Eastern Philosophy LP (dope album -- go get it), but don t expect him to come like he did on Ap s album. The intro is interesting because the production is nice and Mims speeds up the flow. The production as a whole ranges from good to decent. Nothing out of this world though.Music Is My Savior isn t necessarily required listening, but there are worse releases to be put out there in the young year. If you re into beats and don t really listen to the person rapping, you ll love this. If you re into lyrics, I recommend passing on this one. Simply put: there are way too many wack lyrics and lame similies for me to justify buying this brand new. It s cats like this that water the rap game down and cause sales to take a sudden nosedive. I recommend downloading it and testing it out before you actually pay for it.Standout Tracks: Doctor Doctor, This Is Why I m Hot [Remix] feat. Cham & Junior Reid (My Favorite), Where I Belong, Intro, They Don t Wanna Play feat. Bun B & Bad Seed, and This Is Why I m Hot
